Text Conversation with Jason

I'm at work while Jason and the boys are enjoying a snow day at home. I'm sitting at work and my back is seriously killing me, so I decided to let Jason know. LOL!

Me: O-M-G....My back hurts sooooo bad!!!
Jason: Sorry baby. I can rub it when you get home.
An hour later.....he responds:
Jason: This will make your back feel better......You might have to sit down for this.......... (with a lot of space in b/w this).......................................... I'm doing laundry!!!!

I literally busted out laughing! I honestly don't mind doing laundry. I know, I'm strange, very strange, but I'm thankful J is helping on his rare weekday off.

Pregnancy and Stupid People

I swear either people have suddenly become more stupid or I have absolutely no tolerance for stupid people anymore. Maybe stupid isn't the correct/"PC" word, but it is the word I'm going to use for this blog. I'm 99% sure it is due to pregnancy hormones, but I seriously am ready to fly off the handle and be THAT "pregnant lady".

Specifically speaking, Colby's new baseball team. I'm so put out with the coach and his wife. I'm trying to plan the poor kid's birthday party and we don't have a finalized schedule for his tournaments yet. In some roundabout blunt words, I specifically told these people that. I am trying to plan, and you say we have tournaments scheduled, but you can't give me a schedule. I will say I'm less than impressed with their organizational and efficiency skills in running this 'business'. If I send you an email with a couple of questions (two to be exact), please be so kind to answer ALL of the questions. My list could go on and on. Colby's birthday is Feb 13th. We will be out of town the 1st weekend in February and then he has tournaments the following 3 weekends, so I have no clue when he'll actually get to have his party. Tournaments are so unpredictable that you can't plan for anything on Saturday or Sunday, EXCEPT to be at the baseball fields.

Another thing, I'm pretty sure every day I get behind the stupidest/slowest drivers. This didn't happen before I was pregnant. I mean do I have a sign on my car that I can't see that says, "This lady is pregnant. Make sure to piss her off?" I'm sure I could make $$$$$ if I had a camera installed in my car that recorded all of my antics of screaming at people. It really doesn't help that I have a 26 mile (one-way) commute to work. I think I'm ready to move back to Wink (my hometown) where there were absolutely NO stop lights and the only time there was 'traffic' was after a Friday night football game.

New Year's 2010

We celebrated New Year's Eve by going out with some friends to The Cheesecake Factory and then to Dave and Buster's. It was a low-key night, but it we had a blast. It honestly is all about the people you surround yourself with.


I know most people do New Year's Resolutions, but I don't. I refuse to. We have many exciting things coming up in 2010 and can't wait to experience them all.

Updates from my lack of blogging...

I'm pretty sure I forgot to update on the boys' first report cards of the year. Both boys made the A/B Honor Roll. We are already 4 weeks into the 2nd 6 weeks, and they both had all A's and B's on their progress report, which is FABULOUS! They are both doing great in school and we couldn't be more proud of them and their hard work.

Jason's dad was recently diagnosed with Kidney Cancer. The good news is that is Stage 1 and is contained to one of his kidney's only. At this point, they do not believe it has spread. There are 2 spots on his lung that they will continue to watch with monthly scans, but right now they are too small to even biopsy. We will know later this afternoon when his surgery will be scheduled to remove the kidney and surrounding lymph nodes. Last Wednesday and Thursday were scary, emotional, and every other emotion you feel with the big "C" word affects someone close to you. Fortunately, Jason's dad is local so we are able to see him often and visit him in the hospital.

Tristen's 13th birthday is rapidly approaching. Oh my oh my! Can't believe he'll be 13. He is having a sleepover and boy am I in for it!!!

The holidays are coming up and I cannot wait. This is my favorite time of year. I told Jason last night that he might as well get the Christmas decorations down when he puts the Halloween deocrations in the attic. The tree will for sure be up and the lights on the house before we have Thanksgiving at our house.

We are doing family pictures on Sunday and while I'm excited about them, I still have no idea what we are all wearing. We haven't had family pictures done since our engagement pictures 3 years ago. I'm hoping we get some good pictures! :)

Weekend Wrap Up

Worst part of the weekend: It ending.

Best part of the weekend: shopping for more Halloween decor for the front yard. Spending Sunday with the house to myself. It was fabulous! I'm able to get so much more done with all of the boys are gone. Every last piece of laundry was done, dinner was prepped, and the house was straightened up. Jason played golf with his dad and Justin (Colby's old baseball coach and husband of my good friend, Cari) and the boys went to their mom's house on Saturday.

People I saw this weekend: a lot of coworkers at the Juvenille Diabetes 5K. Girls day got postponed, which was fine with me b/c I thoroughly enjoy lazy Sundays!!!

Things that I am not looking forward to this week: honestly.....boys' homework. Colby's homework for the past week has been a beating. As much as I think he has adjusted well to Middle School, we have 2 terrible days of homework, which I'm 99% sure part of it should've been completed in class. Tristen never had this much homework last year.

Things that I am looking forward to this week: Tristen's football game tonight, and FRIDAY! I love Fridays! :)

Where We've Been.....

It has been another one of those times where we get busy and I neglect to update the blog.

This week has been the busiest, by far. Monday - Tristen's football game. Tuesday - Colby's baseball game (which ended up being cancelled b/c of rain) Wednesday - Colby's baseball game (we didn't get home until 10:30pm) Thursday - Tristen's weekly Counselor appt. Friday - Jason softball game. Saturday - 5K JDRF (Juvenille Diabetes) Walk for work. Trying to plan dinners on weeks like this is insane. Sure we could eat out every night and that'd make it easy, but that gets expensive, especially with 2 boys who eat regular size meals now and not kiddie meals. Yesterday, I rushed home from work, changed clothes, and started dinner. Jason got home, saw me in the kitchen cooking spaghetti AND checking over math homework (which required a calculator). (I wouldn't be surprised if some spaghetti sauce didn't splatter on the homework. Oh well if it did!) He said, 'Are you REALLY checking over homework and cooking at the same time?' Captain Obvious! I said, 'Yes, I have no other choice. We have to leave in an hour, and their homework needs to be corrected before we leave since we won't be home until after 10!!!!' He then told me I was Supermom. HA! Whatever. It is called multi-tasking!

Here's a quick update on each one of us. Next time, I'll try and have some pictures.

Tristen

• He is doing GREAT in football. The first game he rotated in and out with another Quarterback. The last game he was the sole quarterback and punter! He did AWESOME! Most plays are running plays, but he did make 2 passes that were very catchable, his receivers just let him down.
• He had all A's and B's on his 3 week progress report and has maintained his A's and B's. We are very proud of him. He has acclimated himself to 7th grade very well.
• Tristen is no longer doing band (which I'm glad) and he is now doing Drama as his elective. Drama couldn't suit this kid any better! He has his first 'skit' coming up on Monday. We went and bought his costume and he is all set. I can honestly see Drama class as something that he'll continue to do. He really enjoys it!

Colby

• Colby's baseball season just started back up. Well, actually, they've been practicing for the past month and their games just started last night. Colby made some awesome plays at 2nd. He had a line drive to short stop that was a hard hit and then he had an AWESOME RBI bunt down the 3rd base line. Even though he is on a new team this season, and I won't get into the reasons why his other Select team fell apart since I might go off on a tangent, he is doing great.
• Colby has adjusted very well to 6th grade and is enjoying it. He had all A's and B's, with the exception of Math, on his progress report. He is back on track though, and he's brought his Math grade up to a B.

Jason

• Jason is still enjoying his new job, well, new place of employment. Same position, just different work environment and NO weekends! YAY!
• He has started working on The Bug, and he hopes to have it on its wheels soon. How soon? Who knows!
• Jason had a birthday and while we didn't have a party or get together, he went and played golf with is Dad and friends. He got a new iron set for his birthday and this is he wanted to do with his birthday.

Me

• I am still in limbo at my job. Some of you know and some of you don't know what happened at my job. I spoke to my new boss today and plans are for me to be 're-positioned' by the end of the year. A pending position that would be ideal is still on the 'drawing board', but not sure if it will come to fruition. In the meantime, I'm working on special projects for my VP, maintaining what I currently do, and preparing for transition.
• I fell off the running wagon after my 5k got cancelled back in August, along with the fact that school has started for the boys and finding free time to do anything is a lot harder these days. I started running again this week and I hope to be registering for a few 5k runs before the Turkey Trot in November.
• I went kayaking last weekend! I've never gone kayaking, but it was a blast. It was just one of my girlfriends and me. Her and her husband have kayaks and take them out to the lake all the time. We paddled around and drank a few 'mini-beers'. It honestly was a ton of fun. We had some nice girl chat time and caught some sun rays before Fall decided to roll into town.

Hopefully, my next post will be a bit more exciting with some pictures.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Worst part of the weekend: It ending. Edited to add: Figuring out the Benjamin Moore's Million Dollar Red is more of an ORANGE than a red. (See next post)

Best part of the weekend: going to eat at Rosa's on Friday night, and painting out Master Bedroom....finally after we've been there for over a year. We no longer have a coral pink colored MB! THANK GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People I saw this weekend: Amy, Kim, Molly, and the paint people at Home Depot.

Something I wished I did this weekend that I didn't get around to doing: NAP. Jason was golfing with his dad and the boys were at the waterpark with their friends, so I should've napped then, but didn't. (Yep...we finally did it. We dropped them off at the waterpark by themselves. They did great and were waiting for me to pick them up.)

Things that I am not looking forward to this week: working Monday - Wednesday.

Things that I am looking forward to this weeek: VACATION....we leave Thursday morning for Beaver's Bend....with NO KIDS! I aboslutely cannot wait. This is our first true vacation since our honeymoon 2 years ago.

I cannot wait to get this wall vinyl decal in the mail! I just ordered it on Etsy! It is going to look fabulous in our living room!!!!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Worst part of the weekend: Having to replace our water heater on Friday and dealing with the drama involved with Colby's baseball team.

Best part of the weekend: all of us being at home for the whole weekend.....which I honestly cannot remember when that happened. We took the boys out with the adults on Saturday. The plan was to let them go watch GI Joe while the adults went and watched The Hangover, but our original plan didn't work out b/c dinner didn't take as long as we expected, so the timing for both movies got all screwed up. We all ended up watching GI Joe, well, I fell asleep during 1/2 of it.

People I saw this weekend: Lots of people at Bryan & Katie's wedding on Friday night, Saturday - Kim, Kate & Allen, Sunday - no one.

Something I wished I did this weekend that I didn't get around to doing: cleaning the house, although Jason did clean the shower.........which I despise doing! I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on the house and call the maid next week. I also forgot to buy a baby shower gift that I meant to buy LAST WEEK!

Things that I am not looking forward to this week: ummmm..........can't really think of anything.

Tonight....

My goal is to upload pictures from Memorial Day Weekend vacation, Colby's 5th grade graduation, and our trip to Round Rock.

Our schedule has been i.n.s.a.n.e for the past week. I know I seem to say that a lot, but here is a quick run down of my craziness from the past week.

• June 3rd - work event in the evening
• June 4th - Colby's baseball game (then pack and get ready to leave for Round Rock)
• June 5th - Colby's graduation, last day of school, left for Round Rock baseball tournament
• June 5th - 7th - in Round Rock for tournament
• June 8th - Golf Tournament for work, rush home after tournament ended to get Colby to the Dr. to make sure his allergies aren't developing into a full fledged cold.
• June 9th - 8:15am Dr appt for Colby's ankle, rushed to work to finish presentation, print recognition certificates, and finish a report all by 1:15. Left work at 1:30 to rush back to Lewisville for a Counselor's appt (for Tristen) with Jason at 2pm. Finished up with Counselor, ran home to check on the boys, and then went to my follow-up Dr appt at 3:45. Rushed out of Dr office, home to grab Colby and get to his game by 5pm. In b/w all that, Jason stopped by the house to pick up Tristen for football camp at 4pm. Fortunately, I was able to unwind with a beer at the "moms meeting" before Colby's baseball game. (The boys have to be there an hour prior to game time to warm up, so the moms head down the street to happy hour.)
• June 10th - Jason is doing one of his clinical rotations at Addison Fire Department, so he is gone for 24 hours. Fortuantely, my brother is off today and so he is helping me get Tristen to football camp at 4, so I don't have to leave work early, AGAIN! Colby was supposed to have baseball practice, but thankfully it was cancelled!
• June 11th - baseball game @ 6...if we win...game @ 8.
• June 13 & 14th - guess what????? more baseball!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully Colby loves the game and loves playing so much! We love it as long as he loves it!

So, now that I will actually be at home for the entire evening, I hope to upload some pictures!

Friday Fill-Ins

1. When I look to the left, I see my coffee cup, telephone, cell phone, and everything else on my desk @ work.

4. Cleaning done dirt cheap! (Idk....I clean w/vinegar and water....so i guess that is dirt cheap.)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to taking the boys to their mom for Spring Break, tomorrow my plans include hang out with our friends at the St. Patty's Day festivities and celebrate Stacy's b-day and Sunday, I want to just relax and maybe start painting the boys bathroom!

Being a stepmom.....

Has its ups and downs and its pros and cons. It is hard....even after 4 years of doing this. 3 of the 4 years the boys have lived with us and go to their mom's on the weekends. It is getting harder and harder that the boys are tweens. Colby (the 11 year old) just came up to me and said, 'I love you Meena', gave me a hug and asked if he could lay down on the couch with me. It was sweet and made my day. Both boys always tell me 'I love you' in the mornings when I drop them off for school and at bedtime, but Colby is always more affectionate than Tristen . Colby is definitely a momma's boy, but he is turning in to being a 'stepmomma's' boy too. :) It is just nice to know that even through the rough days....there are always better days to make up for the rough days!

(Meena is what the boys have called me for the past 4 years. Our niece couldn't say Amanda when she was younger, so she called me Meena. The boys took to the name and that's what they've called me ever since.)

Lack of Posting

There has been a lack of posting, obviously. I've been sick with some annoying cold. Nothing extraordinarily exciting has been going on, therefore, there hasn't been anything to write about.

Oh...last weekend, the BFFs along with some other friends of ours decided we would go check out Mardi Gras in downtown Dallas. I was less than impressed. Yes, we do go to Mardi Gras annually in Shreveport, and it is a mid-afternoon and kid-friendly affair. I was expecting a little more out of the Dallas festivities than what we experienced. I think we experienced first hand what the economy is doing as there must have been some budget cuts due to the lack of beads that were thrown. LOL! Speed zone thought it would be genious to staple little coupons to their beads. While this does provide a relatively cheap means of marketing, it also provided their 'parade participants/bead throwers' (for lack of a better term) a pretty harmful weapon. Speed Zone obviously didn't have budget cuts b/c they were chunking handfuls of beads. These beads with the little coupon attached were like bullets, so when handfuls were chunked I was literally ducking and covering my head for fear my head was a target for these things. So after the mediocre parade, we decided along with the 1000's of other people to go try and eat in the West End. FAIL. Back we treked to the route we had taken to get to where we watched the parade. We stopped at Sonny Byrans and had some barbque. After dinner we decided to *try* to attempt to experience these fesitivies again by just going and having some drinks. Yeah, we were all annoyed and realized that we are too old for this. By 9pm we were heading back to the house to play the Wii. Yes, we are officially old.

This would be a Jessica Simpson purse. I actually purchased it last June and love it. Yes, I surprisingly haven't purchased a purse in 8 months! Go me! I get so may compliments on it. I think I paid right around $100 for it.


Inside you will find. My work blackberry, a random sticky note with my name on it from my boss, Excedrin, Degree deodorant, 2 random rings, a red checkbook, my purse hook, a pen, Imitrex for my migraines, a random penny, my coin purse/card holder, keys to Jason's truck, lip gloss, a hairclip, lotion and a makeup bag with a mirror and other necessities.

So there ya go, my pointless and boring post.

Busy Amanda....

I thought Fridays weren't supposed to be this busy. This has been my day so far and what my tentative agenda is for the remainder of the day. I'm so exhausted already and it is only 3:27pm. Caffiene is calling my name. I must go find some soon.

• Colby’s flight was at 6:40am, so we had to get up at 4:30am. (Colby left for his snowboarding trip in Denver this morning.)
• Back home from the airport by 7am to get Tristen up and ready for school.
• Took a 45 minute nap from 8-8:45am
• Worked from home for 30 minutes in between getting ready.
• Dentist appt at 10:30.
• Got to the office at 1:15.
• Leave the office at 5 to meet at the W Hotel for ‘strategy session’/validate our valet tickets.
• Leave for AAC at 6:15.
• Event for work at our Suite at the Dallas Stars game to hob nob with some of my high net-worth members.
• Mike Modano appearance in our suite AFTER the game!

My guess is I will be home somewhere around midnight!

Quick Update

We haven't had much going on, as of late, but our lives are about to get busy.

• Tristen is taking Mid-Terms this week. (I'm still confused on why they do these AFTER the Holiday Break and not before. Strange!)
• Tristen leaves for Denver on Friday for his snowboarding trip with Uncle Shane. We have to be at the airport at 5am! YUCK!
• Jason starts school next Tuesday.
• Colby's trip to Denver will be sometime in February.
• Colby's b-day in February.
• 3rd annual family trip to Shreveport to see Jason's Aunt and Grandma for Mardi Gras.
• Colby's baseball will be starting back up in mid-March.

Before we know it, Spring Break will be here. I casually started looking at a tropical vacation for Jason and I to go on this summer (sometime around our 2nd anniversary), but not sure if that will actually happen. Anyways, that is the latest on us. :)

My friend Kelly - GrandPooba - tagged me to list 7 random facts about me. I'm not sure how random these are since I've done quite a few of these, but I'll give it a shot.

1. I was adopted when I was 3 weeks old. I don't know my birth parents, but hope to meet them one day. My adoption was done through the state of Louisiana and they have a voluntary registry. If both parties (adoptee and birth parent(s)) register with the registry, they will put the parties in contact. I'm hopeful one day I'll get the chance to meet them.



2. When grocery shopping, I have to go in the same order through the store every time. It isn't possible for me not to. I start at the back and work my way to the front.


3. I grew up in a town of 900 people. I said I'd never move back. Jason and I *kind of* wish we had the capability to move back to raise the boys there, but it isn't possible due to the boys' mom living here.

4. I never get gas before my gas light comes on.


5. I graduated college in 3 1/2 years.

The things I have done in my life, thus far, are in bold. I guess I need to travel more. Looks like that won't happen until we retire. LOL!

I was lucky enough to have the most unflattering picture of me plastered on the front page of the Tech newspaper my senior year. Who was in your wedding party? Lots of people. We had a large wedding party. I had 6 girls and Jason had 5 guys, 2 flower girls and 2 ushers.

Do you get along with the in-laws? Yes, for the most part. Compared to others, I've got it great!

Whats your view on children? We both want one more. There are days when we question ourselves if we really want another one, but we do.
